Medicare Part D Notices Due Before October 15th: Are You Ready?

What’s the issue: You must notify Medicare eligible individuals whether your plan’s prescription drug coverage is creditable under Medicare Part D. Annual Medicare Part D creditable coverage notices must be distributed before October 15, 2026, the start of the Medicare Part D annual enrollment period. 

Why it matters: Medicare eligible participants rely on this notice to make informed enrollment decisions. Individuals who do not maintain creditable prescription drug coverage and delay enrolling in Medicare Part D may face higher premiums later. In addition, failure to provide required notices can create administrative and compliance risks for your health plan. 

What to do: Confirm whether the prescription drug benefit offered under your plan is creditable. Prepare and distribute the appropriate notices before October 15th, including them with open enrollment materials as applicable.
